Each grade starts with around 40 students. In recent years, some freshman classes have started with 42 students, accounting for the typical freshman year attrition.
During the school year, as freshman leave, students on the waiting list are given the chance to attend. A handful of Academy students gain entrance into the school in this way each year.
At some point during the Sophomore year, no new Academy students are accepted off of the waiting list. If students leave the school after that time, their spots are not refilled. This often leads to graduating classes in the mid-30s. For example, the Class of 2012 had a graduating class of 34 students.
